Sumatra – Earthquake

Disaster Description

A powerful earthquake hit the highly-populated island of Sumatra in October 2009. Our team decided to deploy to Indonesia, a hostile country to Israel, in order to provide the people with rapid aid.

IDPs: 135,000

Why We Deployed

Indonesia is a country that does not have diplomatic relations with Israel, and so this mission was in keeping with our aim of providing assistance to countries that don’t share diplomatic ties with Israel


  • Rebuilt a temporary mosque for 1,200 people
  • Trauma treatments for 1,800 kids
  • Distributed dry food supplies for 25,000 families
  • Trained 85 teachers, therapists, and other mental health workers to provide emotional support
