Sumatra – Earthquake

Disaster Description

A powerful earthquake hit the highly-populated island of Sumatra in October 2009. Our team decided to deploy to Indonesia, a hostile country to Israel, in order to provide the people with rapid aid.

Injuries: 3,000
IDPs: 135,000

Why We Deployed

Indonesia is a country that does not have diplomatic relations with Israel, and so this mission was in keeping with our aim of providing assistance to countries that donโ€™t share diplomatic ties with Israel

Impact

  • Rebuilt a temporary mosque for 1,200 people
  • Trauma treatments for 1,800 kids
  • Distributed dry food supplies for 25,000 families
  • Trained 85 teachers, therapists, and other mental health workers to provide emotional support
